Antonius Kho

Antonius Kho

The works of the Bali-based painter and sculptor Antonius Kho are a fusion and synthesis of East and West.

Kho was trained at the Institute of Fine Arts at the renowned ITB in Bandung and at the University of Applied Sciences for Art and Design in Cologne. Kho’s works are shaped by the Buddhist and Christian customs with which he grew up with in his parents’ home, as well as the influences of his Javanese homeland.

His mixed material works, which are mostly made with earth tones on canvas, are based on women, men, children and dancers from Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia, whom the artist has met on his numerous travels in recent years. The mosaic-like figures are composed of expressive faces and bodies, consisting of figures, animals and mythical creatures and the presence of eyes and masks typical of Kho’s works.
